I first shared this Red Hill Queenslander in 2017, and finding its verandah photograph again reminded me why it made my favourites list. At 48 Arthur Terrace, the arches, leadlight windows and intricate timber fretwork are the details that keep drawing me back. Both the 2016 and 2025 sale listings describe it as a 1920s home. It sold again in February 2025, but that beautiful entrance is still the part I remember most.
From the original 2017 post
This delightful house has been added to my favourites list. Located in Red Hill, it completely fulfils the description of ‘charming’. Described in the listing as a 1920s home, it has been renovated while keeping its period details alive. I’m talking about a central arched hallway, detailed fretwork, stained glass windows, timber flooring and a large, family-friendly verandah. It looks completely unassuming from the front—a wonderful example of the humble facade of a Queenslander. As a result, I love it.

Once you step inside, the exquisite detail shines through. While high ceilings dominate and this view from the dining room into the kitchen and family room makes my heart happy, it’s the simple things like the VJ walls and the arches that have the biggest impact on this room.

The galley kitchen flows through to the outside with servery windows, which makes for easy entertaining. I love the bifold windows that open up and let the breeze in and all the kitchen smells out!

The rear verandah is accessible via the family room and main bedroom.

The windows, archway and VJs in this photo are perfection combined.

Also, isn’t this beautiful?!

The rear verandah is large enough for entertaining and is completely breathtaking. I can imagine my kids sitting up on those stools after school, having a snack and doing their homework. Afterwards, we would eat together out on the verandah.

Finally, the photo that gave me all the feelings. It kinda reminds me of Raffles in Singapore. Don’t you love the arch combined with the gabled roof! And the white lace look and feel of the fretwork combined with the lattice gate and the touches of greenery. Perfection in a photo.
