One street back from the Brisbane river is this charming little Queenslander for sale in Hawthorne. From the front, she has the picture perfect Queenslander cottage look with detailed fretwork, white lattice gates and screening and all of the gables. It is the kind of home that I would love to call my own.
As you head up the stairs, through the lattice gates you are met by the most gorgeous little verandah. It reminds me a lot of one of my favourite Queenslanders that is actually located in NSW. I love everything about this verandah. The tin roof, the wooden floorboards, the all white exterior highlighted with an ashy-blue trim. In one of my many daydreams, I’m sitting out on the verandah with a cup of tea, reading a good book.
Here’s the view on the same verandah from the other end. The french doors along the verandah make my heart melt.
This house is huge – it’s been built for dual living with effectively a separate house (with kitchenette) on the ground floor. This is great for a large family with teenagers or if you wanted to make some extra cash on the side. I’ll still always prefer an integrated home but I can understand how this set up would work for a lot of people. Here’s the view from the pool. French doors open up and the garden looks lovely with what I think are frangipani trees. If you follow me on instagram (@queenslanderhome) you will know that my plant knowledge is pitiful and I’m slowly learning!
Here’s another view from the back yard. I can’t believe I’ve reached an age where grass makes me jealous.
The bedrooms on the upper level are all very charming with french doors and high ceilings.
The master bedroom is beautifully appointed with a large fiddle leaf tree (see what I did there, I’m learning!) in the corner of the room. The wooden floors in this room are beautiful – the colour is gorgeous.
This Queenslander was sold in June 2019 for $1.75m (Place Bulimba). The address is 25 Virginia Avenue, Hawthorne. If you are looking for more photographs and a floor plan, they are available on the listing which is here.
