The thing I love about the Queenslander home is how it is perfect in almost every setting. I’m picturing those old cottage Queenslanders on small inner-city blocks or the large country-style homestead Queenslander with the wide, wrap around verandah that is perfect for lazy days and cups of tea. I have been dying to show you today’s Queenslander (not for sale, boo) located in Maleny.
If I had (a) the money to buy this house; and (b) an income stream that doesn’t require me coming into a corporate office every day; I would totally live here!! This is my dream property because:
- it is on almost 18 acres of fertile, goddess land. It already has a vege patch and orchards so clearly it was made for me
- it is a Queenslander (duh), built in 1916 and complete with all of the original features that I love
- the never ending view of rolling green hills and lush trees and gardens. There’s even a fire pit for those cold winter nights when my family and friends are sitting outside singing and trying to play our guitars (seriously, we suck but we have fun)
- there is a guest cottage right next to the main house, perfect for my friends and family (or airbnb, but I wouldn’t need to do that because if I was living here I would have all of the money).
So that settles it. I’m buying a lotto ticket for tonight – $55m – and if I win I’m quitting my job and putting in an offer to the current owner of this house that they can’t refuse! The only feature that is missing is a swimming pool. And since I’d be flush with cash, I’d put one in along with the sweetest pool house in the world.
Now, do you want to see why I’m crazy-in-love for this house? Okay, so first the exterior with a wide, deep, wrap around verandah and lattice gates at the top of the stairs and the bay window in the front bedroom. This photo was taken in Winter / Autumn and with my pitiful knowledge of plants, I have no idea what the bare tree is to the right. I would love to see the same photo taken in late Spring, full of green and (maybe) flowers.

Okay, squeal! Here is the verandah with the view to the front yard. There’s so much to love about this. The white paint job with beige toned highlights and those wooden floorboards that look smooth and well worn with age. The french doors to the left and those light fittings and the day bed….perfect for endless cups of hot tea and a good book.

Here’s the other side of the wrap around veranda. With more french doors and white cane furniture and that little table on the right – totally set up for evening drinks on the verandah.

And now for some front door love. The main house is three bedrooms, which all fall off this hallway.

The kitchen is at the rear of the house and leads off the living / dining room above. It’s a country / homestead style kitchen with the freestanding white bench and open shelving.
