Sherwood Queenslander

Yesterday, it was a 1910 Ascot Queenslander, today it’s a 1908 Sherwood Queenslander.

It’s always been interesting to me how my mind fixates, in short blasts, on particular suburbs.  It usually happens this way, I spot a house I like in a suburb, say Ashgrove, and then I dive deep into the listings and suddenly, ever home in Ashgrove is my new favourite.  It’s a curse.  And it’s basically what is happening right now.  I’m obsessed (again) with the Sherwood, Graceville, Chelmer area and there are so many homes that I have saved and never posted about here.  So I’m doing my best to spread them out among other suburbs so that this doesn’t become too suburb-centric.

So let’s step into today’s Sherwood Queenslander and she is utterly gorgeous.

From the listing:

This iconic landmark home features an enviable 28-metre frontage and has been beautifully maintained with sensitivity to its history since its construction in 1908. This property is presented with all the traditional features that are synonymous with homes of this era the timber highlights of VJ walls and polished timber floors are complimented by lofty pressed-metal ceilings and decorative archways, leadlight windows and charming window seats are also featured. A cozy fireplace will keep you warm in winter and the majestic wrap-around verandahs will ensure you stay cool in summer. A subtle colour palette across generous formal and informal living spaces makes the residence feel warm, welcoming and airy.

Exterior

This exterior reminds me a little of Glenmore, a Federation-style Queenslander in Chelmer.  Glenmore is a little more grand, while this Sherwood Queenslander is more subdued and subtler.

From the listing:

Ideally positioned in one of Sherwood’s most sought-after avenues, this magnificent Queenslander retains all the character and charm of yesteryear. A celebration of classic grandeur, this home is set to steal your heart from the moment you arrive. With a commanding street presence framed by age old Camphor Laurel trees, a wide staircase arises from a private manicured garden and will welcome you into the home.

This entry and those gardens. Sigh.

Entry

The entry door is fabulous.  There are two bedrooms on either side of the entry.  With the one on the right (which is the left in this photo) being the master with a walk in robe and ensuite bathroom.  The other bedroom has french doors that open onto the L shaped verandah.

From the listing:

Stepping inside, the floor plan offers a level of flexibility to adapt to your family needs. On the upper level, a central hallway separates two very generous rooms, a master bedroom complete with romantic bay window, walk-in robe and ensuite. Across the hallway, another very generous space may be optioned as a bedroom or another living area. Passing through the central hallway to the rear of the home the floor plan reveals an open formal lounge dining area with adjoining sunroom accessed via French timber doors.

Living spaces

Moving past the bedrooms leads directly into the lounge and dining room.  There are a lot of spaces in which to sit and relax in this home.  On the upper level, there is the living room, the sun room and a TV room.  Downstairs, there is study and a ‘utility space’ which could be converted into more living space, or a teenager retreat.

Eating spaces

From the listing:

Also on this level is a cottage-style kitchen complete with tiled splash-back, European appliances and breakfast bar. Two further bedrooms and a sun room are located at the rear of he home. The kitchen and living rooms flow to surrounding side and rear verandas whilst an internal timber staircase leads to the lower level offering further living options including a spacious bedroom and home office, study or media room. At this level the home also presents a further bathroom, service laundry, large storage area and secure parking for two cars.
