Wahranga
Known as ‘Wahranga’, this 1908 Queenslander was built on the 7th hole of the old Chelmer golf course, originally facing east, with grounds spanning from Little Lama Street to Honour Avenue. Over time, the acreage was subdivided and circa 1995, the house was raised and rotated to face Twickenham Street.
This is similar to another home in Chelmer that I recently wrote about, Trevallyn, which was also raised and rotated to face a different street.
The listing states that in 2010, the landscaped gardens and swimming pool were added. Then in 2014, a major renovation took place covering all wet areas, electrical, new insulated roof, rear deck, Hampton’s kitchen with butler’s pantry, flooring upstairs and down, and ducted air con was installed.
This home has had four owners in 111 years.
Exterior
Pristine white fencing and manicured hedges will have you impressed from the moment you arrive. Greeted by a Jasmine covered arbour and gated entry, follow the garden path to an enchanting butterfly staircase, while taking in soaring privacy trees, lush lawns and established gardens.
Entry
The wide hallway, formal lounge and dining room are a perfect welcome to this historic home. Style and charm are evident at every turn with original 1908 features such as 12-foot high pressed metal ceilings and roses, decorative breezeways and archways, VJ walls, picture rails and polished timber floors.
Verandah
As my 12 year old daughter says to me – “you are so extra”. Now while I know that she is not complimenting me, I am taking the words of a petulant-almost-teen and turning them into a compliment for this Queenslander beauty. It’s one of the things that I love about a Queenslander, they are so extra. Look at the detail on this verandah, the beauty and the decoration.
Living spaces
The grand design continues to the open plan living and dining with large bay window feature, double hung windows, white timber shutters, VJ ceilings and a Heat n Glow log natural gas heater, Bose surround sound and AV system and 2 large bi-fold doors leading to the covered entertaining deck.
Eating spaces
Host the largest social and family events with the most impressive kitchen, living and dining spaces on the market today. Nothing compares to this entertainer’s delight! Guests will be blown away by the fusion of 1908 grandeur and a contemporary lifestyle.
The breath-taking Hampton’s kitchen boasts 2-Pac custom-made cabinetry, Calcutta stone benchtops and a massive island bench, plus an extensive Butler’s pantry, dumb waiter and 49 soft closing drawers. Any Master Chef will appreciate the European appliances including a double oven, 5 burner natural gas cook top and semi-integrated dishwasher.
Sleeping spaces
The Master suite has more than a hint of glamour with a substantial walk-in robe and newly renovated, luxurious ensuite featuring a freestanding bath, porcelain tiles, custom vanity, twin basins, large skylight and under-floor heating.
The lower level
Downstairs offers 4 generous bedrooms with built-ins and ceiling fans, the newly renovated bathroom and laundry, and another family living area which opens to an extensive covered patio, north-facing backyard, and sparkling in-ground swimming pool with water feature.
