Watson House. Prepare yourself.
It was just after 5am today. I was sitting in the dark at the kitchen table. My work computer was up and running and I’d been working since 4.10am on spreadsheets. Despite how it sounds, it wasn’t a bad start to the morning.
Back story: Over the weekend, I started work on an article about Queenslander verandahs and I thought that I’d take a quick break from my spreadsheet and do some more research and find more photographs of Queenslanders.
I found this. It’s okay to scream.
If I had my apple watch on, it would show a heart rate spike. Probably high enough to warrant medical attention.
Plus, she is FOR SALE!!!! That was said in an Oprah “you get a car voice.”
Her name is Watson House and she is a Maryborough iconic landmark Queenslander. She was built around 1910 by the then local dentist Harry Watson and his newly wedded wife. The home has it all, parquetry flooring, pressed metal ceilings, ornate fretwork, headlight windows and the most enormous room proportions.
Stop for a moment and sigh.
The entry is grand and magnificent. There are four bedrooms that lead directly from the hallway.
The front two bedrooms lead directly onto the front verandah.
The bedrooms all need a little refresh. They have the most amazing bones. If she were mine, I’d restore the walls to VJs only and remove the carpet from all the rooms.
This is the other bedroom that leads onto the front verandah (as well as the rotunda). The bedroom door is love and look at the proportions. These bedrooms are gigantic.
Here are more bedrooms. There are five in total.
The kitchen reminds me of our kitchen in our old Ashgrove Queenslander. It was basic and large enough for a table for meals.
The pressed metal ceilings are to die for. This is the living room. HUGE.
This is the view from the living room to the rotunda.
In the floor plan, this is the family room.
The windows are incredible. They remind me a little of the windows in this house in Ashgrove.
Finally, the rotunda.
And I must not leave out the verandah.
The floor plan.
